Assemblage of Divinatory Decks
Many of my decks now rest in storage as I prepare to move, but more shall grace this space as I uncover and unpack them.
Haunted Cat Tarot
This deck is my current favorite. While traditional artwork is not essential for accurate readings, this deck captures my love of cats and eerie atmospheres. Shouldst thou not request a different deck for thy reading, it is this enchanting deck I shall use. With email readings, I include photographs, and the artwork of this deck is truly mesmerising.
Aleister Crowleyโs Thoth Deck
The spread shown in this photo is a nod to something specific (if thou knowest, thou knowest) and is not meant to represent a Celtic Cross. Though the Thoth deck differs significantly from most others, its readings follow essentially the same principles. However, if thou art accustomed to decks rooted in the (Rider) Waite Smith tradition, thou mayest find some cards in the Thoth deck unfamiliar.
Necronomicon Tarot (Donald Tyson & Anne Stokes)
Inspired by the chilling works of H.P. Lovecraft and rooted in the (Rider) Waite Smith tradition, this deck is both haunting and beautiful to read with. It once held the honor of being my favorite, until the Haunted Cat Tarot captured my heart.
(Rider) Waite Smith
This deck, or one of its many variations, is perhaps the most widely recognized in the world of tarot. While not the oldest known imagery, Arthur Edward Waite ensured that each card's design clearly reflects its fundamental meaning. In this way, it is an exceptionally approachable deck for readings. For those embarking upon their journey into tarot, this is the deck I most often recommend as a starting point.
Often referred to as the Rider Waite deck, this name acknowledgeth only the publisher and Waite, yet I hold that the artist, Pamela Colman Smith, who created these images under Waite's direction, deserveth recognition for her work. Thus, I shall always refer to this deck as (Rider) Waite Smith, or sometimes simply Waite Smith, in honor of her contribution.
Mini Kitty Tarot
This charming deck is rooted in the (Rider) Waite Smith tradition, yet each image is delightfully adorned with depictions of most endearing cats. A size comparison with the Haunted Cat Tarot is included for reference.
(Rider) Waite Smith Pink/Purple Glitter Variant
This deck retaineth the familiar imagery of the (Rider) Waite Smith tradition, yet it is bedecked with a resplendent finish of pink and purple holographic glitter, lending it an air of shimmering enchantment.
Tarot de Marseille (Piatnik)
This deck draweth its inspiration from one of the earliest known tarot traditions. The Piatnik version faithfully recreateth the printing style of the 1800s, including the soft, faded hues that time itself hath bestowed. I also hold the Kris Hadar rendition of the Tarot de Marseille, which preserveth the original artwork yet embraceth more vibrant colors, offering a livelier interpretation of this timeless design.
Le Vรฉritable Tarot de Marseille (Kris Hadar)
Rooted in one of the earliest known tarot traditions, this deck offereth a more vibrant interpretation of the classic Marseille design. Of my two traditional Marseille decks, I favor the other, which replicateth the faded print of surviving decks from the 1800s. Yet I do understand why many are drawn to the lively hues of this version.
It is worth noting that this deck did not shuffle particularly well straight out of the box, for the coating causeth the cards to stick together. However, with use, the coating doth wear enough to allow for smoother shuffling, making it a pleasant deck for readings in due time.
